The class will run as a normal showing class but will not be judged and final placings will not be given. Instead, the Judge will provide feedback and guidance to the rider for practice and improvement for the future. This class is not open to professional riders or riders who compete at affiliated shows. All entrants will receive a participation rosette.

SPECIAL AWARDS:
A British Bred Rosette will be awarded to the highest placed British Bred Connemara pony (ponies conceived and born in Great Britain) in all In Hand & Ridden classes (not Part Breds & Home Produced). In mixed classes, the British Bred Rosette will be awarded to the highest placed Connemara. ALL recipients of a British Bred Rosette are eligible to compete for the British Bred Championship at the end of the show.

 

IN-HAND CLASSES

Tam O’Shanter Championship – the highest three placings of each age group in classes 1–2, Connemara yearlings, two year olds and three year olds, and in class 3, the highest three placings, Connemara Mares only, will qualify for the final which will take place at the annual BCPS Breed Show to be held at Warwickshire College, Moreton Morell, CV35 9BL on 18th – 19th July 2025.  Qualification cards will be awarded in the ring and must be forwarded with the entry for the Breed Show.  

Equifest Open In Hand M&M Final - the two highest placed exhibits not already qualified in classes 1- 4 and the highest placed mare with foal at foot in class 3 not already qualified, that are registered with their respective Pure Bred Society, will qualify for the final to be held at Equifest, Arena UK, Grantham, Lincolnshire on 6th – 9th August 2025.

RIDDEN CLASSES

NPS Mountain & Moorland Qualifying Rounds (class 9 – 14) – these classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. Ponies must be registered in the main body of their respective Mountain and Moorland Stud Books. Part-Breds are not eligible for Mountain & Moorland classes. The highest placed pony, if owned by an NPS member, in each class will qualify for the final. Qualification may pass down to third place if the first and second ponies are already qualified.  Qualifying rounds for most NPS competitions are open to ponies owned by NPS members and non-members, but only ponies owned by Adult NPS Qualifying or Life members are eligible to qualify for the final of the competition at the NPS Summer Championship Show, Three Counties Showground, Malvern, Worcestershire WR13 6NW, 5th – 7th August 2025.

At Breed Shows, ponies can qualify for the final even if their owners are not NPS members. The owner of a pony qualifying at a Breed Show must become an NPS Qualifying or Life member for the pony to enter the final at the NPS Summer Championship Show.

NPS/Fiona Cork Saddles Young Rider (up to 25yrs) Championship (class 9 – 14) – Final to be held at the NPS 2025 Summer Championship Show.

NPS/WTJ insurance Brokers Ltd Home Produced Ridden Championship (class 9/10 & 14) – riders of Home Produced ponies (see definition in the NPS Rule Book) can wear a white arm band in classes where this is indicated. These ponies, if owned by NPS members are then eligible to qualify for the final at the NPS Summer Championship Show. The Owner’s membership cards MUST be produced in the ring when requested or the qualification will be forfeited.  Final to be held at the NPS 2025 Summer Championship Show.

NPS/Faulconbridge Part Bred Ridden National Championship (class 6) – please refer to the NPS 2025 rule book for full qualifying details and class rules. Final to be held at the NPS 2025 Summer Championship Show.

NPS M&M and BRP Amateur Ridden National Championship (class 14) -  both the owner and rider must be amateurs to qualify for this championship class – please refer to the NPS rule book for full details of amateur status and class restrictions. Final to be held at the NPS 2025 Summer Championship Show.

NPS/Nipna Dales Pony Stud M&M Ridden Silver Medal Rosette Championship (1st Placed Prize Winners in class 9 -14) - to be judged under NPS Rules 2025.  The qualification goes to the Champion, if owned by an NPS member and not already qualified for the Final.  If the champion is not owned by an NPS member or has already qualified then the qualification goes to the Reserve Champion, if owned by an NPS member, unless already qualified. The Silver medal rosette is still awarded the Champion.  Qualification to go no lower than First Reserve (third) provided it is owned by an NPS member. 

Equifest Open Ridden Part Breds Final(class 6) - the two highest placed exhibits not already qualified, will qualify for the final to be held at Equifest. Exhibits in this section must be registered in the Part Bred section of their respective Breed Society.

Equifest Junior Ridden M&M Final (class 9/10) - the two highest placed exhibits not already qualified, that are registered with their respective Pure Bred Societies, will qualify for the final to be held at Equifest. Riders of Small Breeds not to have attained their 14th birthday before 1st January in the current year.  Riders of Large Breeds not to have attained their 18th birthday before 1st January in the current year.

NPS/Mole Valley Farmers M&M Home Produced In Hand National Championship (class 4) - the highest placed pony, if owned by an NPS member, in each class will qualify for the final. Qualification may pass down to third place if the first and second ponies are already qualified. The final will be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show.

NPS M&M In-Hand Breed Semi-Final Championship (winner of the In Hand Silver Medal Rosette) – will qualify for the final, to be held at the NPS Great British  In-Hand Show, Oakridge Arena, Newark on 2nd September 2025.

 

Working Hunter Pony Classes

NPS Mountain & Moorland Qualifying Rounds (class 21/22) – these classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. NPS M&M Novice Working Hunter Pony Championship (class 21) – Final to be held at the NPS 2025 Summer Championship Show.

NPS/Area 5 M&M Intermediate Working Hunter Pony Championship (class 22) - Final to be held at the NPS 2025 Summer Championship Show.

Terms & Conditions

1. Where shows are affiliated to the NPS their rules for showing apply in their qualifying classes. 2. No entry fees are refundable. 3. Mares with a living foal born in the current season are not eligible to compete in ridden classes. 4. Brood mares must be four years old or over. The age of the pony is calculated from 1st January in the year of its birth. 5. Foals must be at least 4 weeks old on the day of the show, must accompany the mare into the ring and be shown in a halter or leather head collar. 6. No ridden pony may be shown on a lead rein. 7. All ponies in Novice Classes must be shown in a suitable snaffle bridle. 8. Whips or canes must not exceed 30"(75cm) except in dressage classes. Excessive u se of the whip will be penalised and may result in disqualification. 9. A correctly secured current British standard skull cap/riding hat must be worn. A competitor whose hat comes off (or chin strap comes undone whilst competing must, on penalty of elimination, replace it or fasten it before continuing. He may dismount without penalty to recover the hat or have it passed up from the ground or may stop without penalty to fasten the chinstrap. 10. A Correctly secured Skull Caps/Riding Hats Nos: PAS015 2011, VG1 (BS)EN1384 2023, ASTM F1163 2015 and 2023, SNELL E2016 and E2021, AS/NZS 3838 2006, MUST be worn by riders at all times whilst mounted. Hats should have a plain cover either Black, Navy, Blue, Brown, Grey or Green. Velvet covers are encouraged. It is considered to be the responsibility of the members/guardians to ensure the hat complies with the current standards. Members/guardians are responsible for ensuring the manufacturer's guidelines with regard to fit and replacement are followed. 11. Body Protectors MUST be worn when jumping in any WHP and WH Classes including practice ring at BSPS affiliated shows. Riders must wear a body protector when working in (practice jump) and the jumping phase in all BSPS affiliated events. Body Protectors should be `BETA’ approved and appropriately labelled 'Level 3 body protector' 2018 (Blue and Black). All types of Air jackets are not allowed. 12. A fall of pony or rider in the ridden phase of any class will result in disqualification. The rider must not remount in the ring. A fall of a rider in the in-hand phase may result in elimination at the discretion of the judge. 13. All equines must be kept within the designated areas and handlers must obey the instructions of the stewards to conform to the current Health and Safety rules. 14. Stallions/colts may not be lead or ridden by a junior who has not attained his/her 14th birthday on the day of the show. 15. All equines must be kept under control at all times. Any equine deemed not to be under control may be required to leave the Ring and/or Showground by any authorised person. 16. The Judges decision is final. 17. Any pony arriving late for a class may only compete in that class with the Judge's permission. 18. Exhibitors may not remove their ponies from the Ring during judging, without the Judge's permission. 19. In WHP classes, no change of rider/saddlery is allowed between phases or during a phase. Protective front boots only may be used for the jumping and ridden phases only. Bandages and protective pads on ponies' feet are not allowed. No change or rider/handler will be allowed throughout the class without the judge’s permission. 20. No stallion or colt may tease and/or serve a mare on the Showground or on the show premises. All colts 2yrs old or over must be adequately bitted. Ridden Stallions must wear a stallion disc obtainable from the NPS or other showing society, In Hand stallions (2yrs old and over) are advised to display a stallion bridle marker. 21. No pure bred 148cm and under may be plaited. 22. An exhibitor may not knowingly exhibit a pony bred, sold leased, produced broken, ridden or trained by the Judge, and/or his/her immediate family or his/her employer/employee or by anyone with whom he/she resides. (N.B: Group teach-ins and demos are exempt). 23. a) A rider/Handler may not compete in a Class judged by someone for whom he/she has exhibited in the show ring within the previous 12 months or judged by his/her immediate family. b) An exhibitor may not show under a judge for whom he or she has produced a pony within the previous 12months (An exhibitor is the owner, the lessee or the person who produces and/or shows the pony). c) An exhibitor may not show under a Judge where he or she has entered into a financial/commercial undertaking within the previous 12months. Stud fees are excluded. 24. No invited judge is permitted to exhibit a pony at the same show. 25. The Show Committee reserves the right to alter the times of the classes, rings or the judges if necessary. Timings given on the schedule are `not before‘ start times and are given as an approximate guide. Classes will run on where a time is not given. The decision of the Show Committee in all matters is final. 26. All entries must be paid in full when entering. If monies have not been paid before the show date entry to the showground will not be permitted. NO ENTRY FEE WILL BE REFUNDED. 27. All dogs must be kept on leads at all times. Please clear up after your dog. 28. No animal can be brought onto the showground unless it is entered in a class. 29. No clearing out of horse boxes is allowed on the showground; anyone found will be fined. Please ensure you take ALL litter HOME WITH YOU. 30. Anyone wishing to lodge a protest shall do so in writing to the Show Secretary's 0ffice and at the same time deposit £50.00. All protests shall be delivered within one hour of the incident.

BCPS Rules for Showing
This show is affiliated to the British Connemara Pony Society and the Society's Rules for Showing apply. Neither the organisers of this event, nor any agent or representative accepts any liability for any accident, loss or injury or illness to horses/ponies, riders, or spectators, or any other person land or property whether caused by their negligence or breach of contract in anyway whatsoever.
1. Unless entered in a class specifically for over-height Connemara ponies, no Connemara pony exceeding 148 cms or less than 128cms maybe shown or take part in any competition restricted to Connemara or Registered Mountain & Moorland Ponies within the jurisdiction of the Society. Where it is reported to the Society that this may have occurred then the Council or such sub-committee or individual representative as the Council may delegate authority to from time to time, may require the animal to be measured or re-measured in accordance with the Rules of the Joint Measurement Board Ltd. The penalty for the contravention may be cancellation of the registration of the animal concerned. 2. No entire male may be shown or take part in any competition restricted to Connemara or registered Mountain & Moorland ponies after the 1st January in the year in which he attains the age of three years un less he is registered as a stallion in the adult section of the Stud Book or the stud book of the Parent Organisation or an Approved Society. Stallions registered after 1st March 2007 must be registered in Class 1 or Class 2. 3. No female or gelding may be shown or take part in any competition restricted to Connemara or registered Mountain & Moorland ponies after the 1st January in the year in which it attains the age of four years unless it has been registered as an adult pony in the Stud Book or the stud book of the Parent Organisation or an Approved Society. Mares and geldings registered after the 1st March 2007 must be registered in Class 1 or Class 2, with the exception of geldings registered as adults in the Stud Book in 2007 and 2008. 4. No Connemara pony may be shown over the age of six months unless it is registered in the Stud Book or the stud book of the Parent Organisation or an Approved Society.

NPS & Breed Show Qualifiers
NPS Qualifying Rounds / Breed Show Rules
Annual Equine Influenza vaccinations are a compulsory requirement for all horses/ponies competing in NPS affiliated classes. Ridden stallions MUST display a stallion bridle marker available from the NPS office or from any other society. In Hand stallions (2 years old and over) are advised to display a stallion bridle marker. NPS Silver Medal Rosette Championships, Breed Show Rules: These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. At breed shows Silver Medals may be won by non-members. The owner of the qualified pony must become an Adult Qualifying or Life member to enter the final. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette, but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion pony. The Silver Med al Rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve (third). Foals are not eligible for Silver Medal Championships. Riders of stallions must be the appropriate age (see NPS Rules).

Equifest Qualifiers
This show is affiliated to the Equifest Showing Show, to be held at Arena UK, Grantham, Lincolnshire on 6th – 9th August 2025. Qualifications cards* need to be handed to the judge in the ring upon qualification. * Equifest qualification cards – qualification cards can be downloaded from the Equifest website https://equifest.org.uk/competitors/

· ALL Junior WHP riders must wear a BETA Approved “Level 3 Body Protector 2018” (Blue & Black) in the warm up area, clear round jumping & WHP ring.
