NATIONAL PONY SOCIETY/ BAILEYS HORSE FEEDS MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND RIDDEN
PONY OF THE YEAR
o This competition is open to stallions, mares and geldings, four years old and over, to be registered
in, and complying with the showing requirements of, the main body of their respective stud books.
Riders and Owners must be members of their respective Breed Society, NPS, UK Ponies &
Horses, The Showing Register or BSPS. Ponies must not exceed the height limits as stipulated by
the relevant Breed Societies. Riders of stallions must have obtained their 12th Birthday (small
breeds) or 14th birthday (large breeds) before 1st January in the current year.
Exhibitors are required by DEFRA to carry with them Official Identity Documents for all
horses/ponies when competing or travelling. Competitors are reminded that it is a DEFRA
requirement that the Official Identity Documents must be in the name of the legal owner within 30
days of ownership. This must be registered with the breed society, relevant studbook or ID issuing
agency, dependant on breed/type of animal. Spot checks may be carried out at qualifying shows
and by breed societies.
These classes will be run in accordance with the general rules as set out in the Horse of the Year
Show rulebook, a copy of which can be downloaded from www.hoys.co.uk.
This is a Horse of the Year Show Qualifier, all data given upon entry of this class is provided to
Grandstand Media Limited and stored on the Grandstand Entries System. For full policy details

Marks will be awarded in the following way:
Show, freedom of action 50 maximum
Breed type and conformation 50 maximum
In the case of equality, the pony with the highest show, freedom of action mark will be deemed the
winner. If there is still equality at this point, then the judges’ decision will be final.23
This class is a qualifying class for Horse of the Year Show, NEC, Birmingham, 9th - 13th October
2024. Qualification will not pass below 3rd Place. Qualification will be verified by the Horse of the
Year Show office.
NPS QUALIFYING ROUNDS, BREED SHOW RULES:
These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS 2024. Ponies must be registered in the main
body of their respective Mountain & Moorland Stud Books. Part breds are not eligible for Mountain &
Moorland Classes.
Qualifying rounds for most NPS competitions are open to ponies owned by NPS members and nonmembers and at breed shows ponies can qualify for finals even if their owners are not members.
Owners of qualified ponies must become adult Qualifying or Life members to enter the final of the
competition at the NPS Summer Championship Show at Malvern in August 2025.
The highest placed pony, in each class will qualify for the final. Qualification may pass down to third
place if the first and second ponies are already qualified.
NPS/Corscaron Horse Essentials Home Produced Ridden Championship - Riders of Home Produced
ponies (see definition in the NPS Rules Book) can wear a white arm band in classes where this is
indicated. These ponies are then eligible to qualify for the final at the NPS Summer Championship
Show.
A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by the National Pony Society for the best registered pony in the M&M
In-Hand Section. To be judged under the Rules of the NPS. At breed shows Silver Medals may be
won by non-members. The owner of the qualified pony must become an Adult Qualifying or Life
member to enter the final. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver
Medal Rosette but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion pony. The Silver Medal
Rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve (third). Foals are not
eligible for Silver Medal Championships. Qualifiers are entitled to compete in the final of the Silver
Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show in August 2025.
NPS M&M Breed Semi-Final Championship Qualifier for the Great British In Hand Show – 7th
September 2024, Bury Farm, Buckinghamshire.

THE PRICE FAMILY SUPREME IN HAND SEMI FINAL
THE PRICE FAMILY SUPREME IN-HAND HORSE OR PONY OF THE YEAR SEMI FINAL
The following class is a qualifier for Supreme In-Hand Semi-Final at National Pony Society Great British
In-Hand Show, Bury Farm, Buckinghamshire, Saturday 7 September 2024, which is a qualifier for
Horse of the Year Show, NEC, 9th-13th October 2024. The objective of the competition is to find the
supreme light horse or pony in-hand champion of the year, irrespective of breed or type (excluding
heavy horses).
The Champion horse or pony from the following classes will be eligible to compete in The Price Family
Supreme In-Hand Semi Final, provided it has not already won a Price Family Supreme In-Hand qualifier
in 2024.
• The highest placed eligible in-hand pony in the Supreme Championship line-up. (Drawn from
Forest-run stallion championship, stud stallion championship, gelding championship if the champion
is 1, 2 or 3 years old, mare championship, youngstock championship, Forest-bred championship
provided that this is not a gelding of 4 years of over)
If the Champion has already qualified for Horse of the Year Show 2024 or is ineligible, then the
Reserve Champion may come forward to The NPS Great British In-Hand Show, provided it has not
already qualified and is eligible. If both Champion and Reserve Champion have already qualified for
Horse of the Year Show 2024 or are ineligible then the Semi-Final will not be represented at the NPS24
Great British In-Hand Show. Foal champions and geldings fours years old and over are not eligible to
compete or eligible to qualify for Horse of the Year Show.
In the event of a horse/pony having been awarded more than one section Championship at this show,
that horse/pony will represent both/all sections and the Semi Final qualification will not pass down to
the Reserve Champion in the 2nd and any subsequent sections.
All classes are open to Yearlings, 2 year olds, 3 year olds, Stallions, broodmares and barren mares
only. Broodmares must be with foal at foot or a relevant certificate of pregnancy. Mares which have not
yet foaled or that have lost their foals are eligible to enter with a relevant certificate of pregnancy for
the following year.
There will be no direct entry into Supreme In-Hand Championship Semi Final, all animals must be a
section champion or reserve champion (as applicable).
Judges need not be registered on any society Judge’s panel but must possess sufficient experience to
judge. Data given upon entry of this class is provided to Grandstand Media Limited and stored on the

PASSPORTS
It is a legal requirement that the passport must accompany the pony at all times.
All ponies should therefore travel to the show with their passports. The Society may levy a fine on
any pony found without its passport. Random passport checks may be carried out.
MICROCHIPPING
With the exception of classes 71 and 74, and foals, all entrants at the show must be
microchipped, and the microchip number recorded on the Society database.
MEASURING
All ponies entered in a class with an upper height limit (eg 133 cm, 138 cm) must be measured on the
showground before the class by the Society’s official measurer whose decision is final, unless they
produce a JMB Certificate or a veterinary measurement height certificate (allowing 1 cm for shoes),
which should be presented with the pony to the Measuring Steward so that it can be ratified. JMB
LHC or a Society Certificate for a pony measured at 7 years of age or over will be accepted as
permanent and will not need measuring year on year. JMB is now paperless and online only, so
competitors wishing to use a JMB measurement must bring a printout of their pony’s JMB database
entry. This does not apply to class 7, Horse of the Year Show M&M qualifier, where ponies will be
required to be in possession of a current/valid JMB height certificate within 28 days of the notification
of qualification from HOYS or by the closing date of HOYS entries, whichever is sooner.
A General Administration and Indemnity
A1 Entries must be made online, on or before 12 August 2024.
Late entries (some at extra fees) will be accepted in Horse of the Year Show qualifier, and all other
classes.
A2 The Council reserves the right to refuse any entry without giving reasons.
A3 Entry fees can only be returned on the production of a valid veterinary certificate less £5 for
administration fees.
A4 If the show has to be cancelled for any reason, the Council reserves the right to retain up to 50%
of any entry fee paid to cover pre-show expenses.
A5 The Council reserves the right to cancel any class, refunding any entry fee.
A6 Neither the Society nor any of its Officers or Servants will be responsible for anything that may
happen from any cause or circumstance whatsoever to any person attending, or any animal
exhibited, at the show. It shall be a condition of entry that each Exhibitor/Owner shall hold the
Society harmless and that they will indemnify the Society against any legal proceedings arising
from any such cause or circumstance.
A7 Should any question arise not provided for in these rules, it will be referred to the Committee on
the ground, whose decision will be final.
A8 Exhibitors are advised to insure against appropriate risk not only as regards their own property but
also against any third party claim.
B Rules Relating to Society Membership
B1 All exhibitors/owners must be members of the New Forest Pony Breeding and Cattle Society or

C Rules Relating to Ponies
C1 All New Forest ponies including first cross/part bred or X-register must be in possession of a valid
passport issued by the New Forest Pony Breeding & Cattle Society. Forest-run ponies born after
1 July 2009 may hold Registration Certificates issued under the derogation in the Equine
Identification (England) Regulations 2018.
C2 In New Forest classes NO plaiting is allowed, but manes and tails may be lightly pulled.In first
cross/part bred/X-register classes ponies may be plaited. No hind shoes allowed in in-hand classes
unless otherwise stated.
C3 All ponies entered in any class with an upper height limit (eg 133 cm, 138 cm) MUST be
measured on the showground before the class by the Society’s official measurer, whose decision
is final. JMB Measurement Certificates (or print-out of JMB database entry) and veterinary
measurement certificates (allowing 1cm for shoes) will be accepted if produced with the pony.
Passports must be presented with the pony at the measuring stand.
C4 No mare with a living foal born in the current year may compete in any class other than classes
50, 51, 55, 74, 75, 76, 77.
C5 The Society’s Veterinary Officers are authorised to have removed from the showground any
animal affected with contagious or infectious disease which, in their opinion, is likely to prove
dangerous to other animals. There will be a fine of £50 for each animal disqualified.
D Rules Relating to Owners, Riders and Handlers
D1 All animals entered must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor/owner. They must be transferred
to the correct owner’s name prior to the close of entries, or the entry will be refused.
D2 The responsibility for the accuracy of the entry online will rest with the Exhibitor/Owner. Anyone
who knowingly makes a false entry will be disqualified and all prize money, premiums and cups
awarded at the show will be forfeited. The exhibitor/owner will be debarred from entering or
exhibiting at the show for three years.
D3 It is the competitor’s responsibility to check the schedule when entering, for classes that may
coincide and no entry fees will be refunded when classes overlap. No classes will be held up.
D4 Competitor’s numbers will be on the day at the show.
D5 Owners/ exhibitors are responsible for the presence of their ponies in time to be judged. Ponies
must be measured at least 30 minutes before the class is due to be judged.
D6 Everyone in charge of stock will be subject to the orders, rules and regulations of the Society.
D7 Competitors must wear jackets in ridden classes and be appropriately dressed in In-Hand classes.
D8 Competitors must wear their correct numbers, or the Show Committee will not be held responsible
for incorrect results.
D9 No spurs or whips/canes more than 30” long allowed except in dressage when BD dressage rules
apply, and with the exception of para riders who have provided appropriate RDA documentation
with entries.
D10 The use of mobile devices (eg mobile phones, tablets, cameras, body cams, earpieces) in the ring
is prohibited. Anyone using such a device in the ring will be asked to leave the ring and the
associated exhibit will be eliminated.
D11 Young Commoners: definition – People aged under 35 known to be depasturing stock that are
registered in their own name.
E Rules Relating to Judges and Judging of Classes
E1 No prize shall be awarded when, in the opinion of the judge, there is insufficient merit. The judge
has the power to divide any prize or premium. The decision of the judge shall be final.
E2 The Committee reserves the right to substitute judges when unforeseen circumstances require.
E3 Officials and competitors only allowed in the Judging Rings.
E4 The rider/handler may not remove their ponies or themselves from the ring during judging, without
the Judge’s permission. The class ends when the Judge dismisses the class.
E5 Exhibitors in all classes are prohibited from receiving any help or assistance from, or to be
accompanied by, an additional handler, or a change of handler, unless in the case of an emergency
or serious threat of risk or harm to the exhibitor, or other exhibitors, or ponies, or any other
individual, under the direction of the judge. Exhibitors of foals or yearlings are permitted to have an
assistant if needed for the individual show. All assistants must be appropriately dressed for the
show ring. They must not enter the ring until required and must leave the ring as soon as the26
relevant animal has completed its show and returned to the line-up. In the event of a breach of this
rule the exhibitor and person(s) providing such assistance will be disqualified from the class.
E6 Classes may be divided or amalgamated at the discretion of the Show Committee.
F Complaints and Disciplinary Procedures
F1 Written objections must be handed in at the Show Secretary’s Tent within 30 minutes of the incident
with a deposit of £25, which shall be forfeited if the objection is not upheld. The decision of the
Committee will be final.
F2 Any person whose conduct, in the opinion of the Committee, is detrimental to the character and
interests of the Society may be subject to disciplinary proceedings. The Society has adopted the
NPS Complaints and Disciplinary Procedures as published in the current year’s NPS rules book.
G Rules for Drugs Testing
The Society has adopted the NPS Rules for Drugs Testing as published in the current year’s NPS rules
book.
H Rules relating to Cups and Trophies
H1 All Cups and Trophies are perpetual and may not be won outright. Any exhibit in the same
ownership that wins the same trophy three years in succession will be presented with a small
memento.
H2 Exhibitors are responsible for having cups engraved.
H3 Winners of cups that are not returned will NOT be permitted to compete at the show in the following
two years. This rule will be strictly adhered to, except in proven circumstances. All cups must be
returned clean and undamaged. The Society bears no responsibility for any damage howsoever
caused up to the point of return, and the exhibitor is responsible for any repair costs incurred.
GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION (GDPR) – PRIVACY NOTICE
NFPBCS is a data controller registered with the Information Commissioner and endeavours at all times
to process your personal data in accordance with the GDPR. Your personal data as given on the entry
will be stored on a secure server, processed for the purposes of the administration of the show, and
will be published in the catalogue. Information will be passed to our printers solely for the purpose of
publishing the show catalogue. Personal data on entries in affiliated classes may be passed to NPS
and/or HOYS, and their privacy notices should be checked. Results information including photographs
may be published (in printed form and online) both to the press, other societies and showing
organisations and in the Society’s publications. Information may be supplied to Defra, trading
standards and veterinary advisors if requested by them. The making of an entry into the show is
irrevocable consent for the storage and disclosure of information in this way. We will never sell your
data.
1. Every person on the show ground has a general legal duty under the Health & Safety at Work
Act to look after themselves and others who may be affected by what they do. This means you.
2. No galloping or cantering around the show ground except in the ring or warm up area where
appropriate.
3. No ponies to be left unattended while tied to boxes / lorries.
4. Correct specification hats conforming to the latest British Standard that are correctly fitted and
fastened must be worn by all riders on the show ground.
5. Body protectors are highly recommended for all jumping classes.
6. Hard hats and gloves are recommended for all in-hand classes (particularly young-stock and
stallions).
7. Handlers of ponies in the In Hand classes aged 14 and under must wear a correctly secured
current British Standard skull cap or riding hat.
8. No visible jewellery to be worn. The judge will ask the competitor to remove items.
9. A fall of rider or a pony in any class will result in disqualification. The rider must not remount in
the ring.
10.NO CHILDREN under 12 years old other than those competing will be allowed into the collecting
rings at any time.
11.Dogs MUST be kept on leads at ALL times.
12.It is recommended that owners should have third party liability insurance.27
13.Owners should keep their own animals under control at all times.
14.The Council reserves the right to order off the show ground any animal that they consider to be
out of control or dangerous.
15.Correctly secured Skull Caps/Riding Hats that meet one of the following current Safety
Standards/specifications MUST be worn by all Riders of all ages. Hat Standards accepted as
of 1st January 2024 are as follows: PAS015 2011, VG1, (BS) EN1384 2023, ASTM F1163
2015 & 2023, SNELL E2016 onwards, AS/NZS 3838 2006 onwards.
